More about Jerry Garcia Magic Mushrooms
Jerry Garcia Magic Mushrooms is a new strain named after the famous lead-singer, song-writer and guitarist of the band Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead was formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California and has been identified to play a huge role during the counter-culture movement of the 60s and 70s. Being in the heart of the counter-culture movement meant lots of experiments with different psychedelics and drugs.
Jerry Garcia preferred magic mushrooms over laboratory-made drugs later in his life because he found them milder and easier to handle
Why He Liked Mushrooms
- Milder effect: Garcia stated in interviews that mushrooms caused less nervous system stress than synthetic drugs.
- Good nature: He described mushrooms as reliable, “good-natured,” and less jittery or “jangly” than other substances.
- Organic preference: As he grew older, he favored natural psychedelics over lab chemicals. [1, 2, 3]
How Often He Used Them
- Infrequent use: In a later interview shared by Relix, Garcia noted he only took psychedelics a couple of times a year on impulse rather than on a strict schedule.
- Age and the body: He mentioned that a younger body handles the physical stress of tripping much better than an older one.
His Perspective on Psychedelics
- Tool for the mind: Garcia viewed psychedelics as a way to explore consciousness or take a mental “coffee break” rather than a daily habit. [1]
- Individual results: He acknowledged that the experience could be wonderful or difficult, but it always provided material for self-reflection. You can read more historical context in the Rolling Stone Interview.
